FEBRUARY 10, 2016 - BORMIO
Today, around 3:30 pm two avalanches took place in Bormio, more precisely within the freeride spot Vallone, at about 3,000 meters.
Nine people were involved in the accident. Five of them were partially hit by one of the avalanches but all of those were able to free themselves. None of the people involved got injured or bruised.
The Alpine Rescue quickly intervened with two helicopters coming from Sondrio and Bergamo. The rescue teams gave the area a probe. Everybody was already safe and standing out of the freeride spot, nobody got hurt.
Today, the avalanche risk was set to 3 - considerable. The latest snowfalls made the level rise: avalanches are likely to happen, especially on steep slopes.
We would like to remind you that freeride is an extreme sport. This means it is only addressed to expert skiers/snowboarders, adequately geared and prepared for self-rescue on avalanche. So, stay aware and safe.
